What’s On

Welwyn Wheelers runs a full programme of regular coached training sessions at Gosling Velodrome, Welwyn Garden City. To find the right type of session for you, pick from the Sessions Summary or Bookable Products sections below.

Riders must book and pay for entry in advance via our online booking system unless otherwise stated. Please check this page regularly for updates. Track bike hire is available for an additional £5 per session (click on the option when booking).

Sessions are held at the track at Gosling Sports Park, Welwyn Garden City unless otherwise stated.

Sessions Summary (Spring)

MondaysOpen Track Training 7-9pm, from March 31st 2025
For riders with track racing experience, and experienced track riders who want accreditation to ride in the Welwyn Track League
TuesdaysCyclo-Cross Skills Builder 7-8:30/9pm from September 2nd
Improvers session for Youth, Junior and Senior riders aged 10+. Building on endurance and developing Cyclo-Cross specific skills. Cyclo-Cross or Mountain bikes can be used. Youth rider my decide to finish @8:30pm

Advanced Cyclo-Cross Training 7-9pm from September 2nd
Open CX training session for experienced riders only – for those already racing or intending to race.
WednesdaysOpen Track Session 7-9pm (last session 10th September)
Open to riders of all ages with track experience, or who have completed the novice sessions and are looking to progress.

Open Road Bikes on the Track 7-9pm from 17th September
Open session for competent club riders with a good endurance base, particularly those who race or will be racing on a regular basis.
FridaysWelwyn Track League 7pm, from 25th April 2025
To become a track league member for 2025 please visit Welwyn Track League Rider Registration 2025. For weekly entry to Track League racing click here. Entry deadline is 2pm on the day of the event. Pre-entry is required, no exceptions
SaturdaysNote that advance booking, by Friday at the latest, is essential for Saturday sessions. Due to insurance limitations, we must cap the number of participants. Unfortunately, this has occasionally meant turning away young riders.

Go-Ride Freewheel Session 9–10:30am
Fun novice session for young Youth riders wishing to improve their bike handling skills, aged 5-10 years old.

Off Road Skills Session 9-11:00am
Improvers session for Youth riders aged 10-16 years old.

Open Track Session 9-10:30am (last session 6th September)
Intermediate session open to all age categories with some track riding experience and looking to progress to racing.

Open Road Bikes on the Track 9-11:00am from 13th September
An open session for Youth riders aged 14 and above, and Seniors/Juniors who wish to improve their group riding skills ,e.g. chain gangs/through and off etc.

Navigated Off Road Ride 9am
A 2+ hour off road adventure for Seniors, Juniors, U16 and competent U14s.
SundaysClub Run 9:30am from Gosling Sports Park (meet outside the Tennis centre)
A social group ride with a café stop on the first Sunday of every month (we may increase the frequency of rides if we get decent numbers turning up).
