Alex Peeke and Howard Ashmore rode the 4th cat Okley village road race near Aylesbury on 12th July.  The race was run over 4 laps of an 8.6 mile circuit which was fairly flat.  Strong winds kept the bunch together despite repeated efforts of various riders to escape.  Unfortunately a clash of bars in the bunch gallop about 200m from the line sent Alex across the road with two buckled wheels and broken spokes.  Alex somehow stayed upright but Howard was not so lucky, hitting the deck along with three other riders.  Howard was able to jump back on his bike and cross the line just behind the bunch for his first finish in an open road race.  Alex carried his bike across the line which is probably a technical finish for what it's worth.  Despite the disappointing end it was a good event which was run in conjunction with the Oakley village fete which gave the day a festival atmosphere.
