Minet Park saw a wonderful sunny day for a youth race. Dan Snow, the Welwyn Wheeler entry had gone into the event with a game plan… yes, this time he had one.

The thoughts were to track the movements of Martin Dawkins who has shown to be a very good sprinter as a 2nd year U16. If Martin was favourite, then he would be worth tracking.

The race went to plan. The bunch split into two with 4 riders off the front within the first 5 laps. Dawkins, Steven Bradbury, Sam Grant and Dan Snow. The break increased to 8 riders during the next 20 minutes.

Dan had received instructions in the past from our very own Adrian Trott. "Don’t do anything stupid, ride to your strengths and use your speed at the end" In other words, be patient….

With three laps to go, Dan started to maintain his position in the top three. Finally, with 350m to go the bunch began its gallop to the line, Dan launched his attack for the line at 200m and the bunch saw a mass sprint. Dan came in a very respectable 3rd place ahead of Bradbury.
