Four wheelers started and only one, George Bateman, finished their races at Hog Hill on bank holiday Monday.

George was in a mixed u16/u14 race and was robbed of his true placing as a result of a lap count mix up but probably finished 3rd or 4th.  The youth race broke up pretty quickly but George battled around in a small and decreasing group.

The senior 3/4s race was carnage.  I dropped my chain on the third lap and tried to chase back on solo.  After one lap I decided to take a lap out as I wasn't making much progress into the winds.  Ed Checkley chipped off the front to take the first prime and also exhausted himelf with the result that Ed and I both packed after about 7/8 laps.  Meanwhile Howard Ashmore who like many others had gone out of the back of the main group was gamely battling away in his own private race and only pulled out much later (I had already had a shower, got changed and had a cup of tea by this time).  Apparently only 25 out of 75 finished.  The E/1/2 race (which I didn't watch) was just as bad with 13 out of 45 finishing.

If you fancy yourself as a strong crosswinds rider and can power up a steep climb every 2km then get yourself down there next weekend!
