Saturday 15th March saw Welwyn Wheelers return to the Hillingdon racing circuit. There were a total of 13 Wheelers racing across three events all offering support to each other over the course of the afternoon. Despite threatening clouds the rain stayed away to provide for safe, fast and enjoyable racing for all.
First up was the youth race in which Joe Fry continued his recent run of success with 2nd place in his age group with Isabel Scott coming 1st in her category. There were also strong rides from George Bateman, Alex Anderson and new recruit Dan Snow. In the senior novice race the Wheelers had three riders including Gary Gunn making his debut in road racing and finishing a creditable 5th in the bunch just ahead of Howard Ashmore making a comeback after a 25 year break from racing. Alex Peeke who was leading into the final straight lost out in the final sprint to take 3rd. The final event of the afternoon was the senior 35 mile race featuring 4 wheelers. Adrian Trott in particular rode a controlled race in the middle of the bunch in what was a fast and attacking event eventually won by a seven man breakaway. A good selection of pictures are on the gallery. |
