A cold and windy and cold morning saw a good turn out of U16 riders at the Hog Hill replacement circuit at the Ford Dunton test track including Welwyn Wheeler Dan Snow
We knew competition would be good so carried out a very professional roller warm up to psyche out the competition. It was lovely to see Dan in Welwyn colours being the only rider to warm up properly yet again. The event was 35 minutes and 5 laps which equated to nearly 1 hour. The first lap was quite quick. A full on attack from Rossi caused a bunch line out and a middle group of 3 riders hovered behind the leader Rossi and breaking from the main field. This group included Tom Fitzpatrick, Jim Lewis and our very own Dan Snow. It stayed like this for the next 15 minutes. Lewis attacked hard which left Tom and Dan chasing. Tom was too strong and Dan ended up in time trial chase mode in the middle. This was the score for the next 15 minutes. There seemed no danger of the main field closing the gap to Dan. Another rider from the main bunch (name not known) launched an attack and decided to go it alone. Dan held him off for as long as possible but was caught and passed. Although he kept him in sight, Dan couldn't close the gap. Both riders held a good pace. The main bunch fell further and further behind and Dan kept increasing the gap by around 10 seconds per lap. All the riders mentioned above lapped the field with 2 laps to go. Dan came in a very well earned 5th place and 1 lap up. Had he been 2 seconds per lap faster, he would have held 4th place. Very enjoyable to watch. Results: 1. Oliver Rossi (Glendene) 2. Jim Lewis (Glendene) 3. Tom Fitzpatrick (Diss) 4. Not Known 5. Dan Snow (Welwyn Wheelers) 6. Main bunch (+ 1 Lap) Report by - Ray Snow |
