Welwyn Wheelers CC is launching an Appeal aiming to raise £10,000 to pay for facilities and essential maintenance at the velodrome at Gosling Sports Park*.

Following concerns about the rate of deterioration of the cycling track surface, a preservative surface coating was applied to the tarmac around both bankings in 2007. This has successfully maintained the surface and reduced the previously high frequency of punctures. We now need to apply this coating in both straights to ensure a long lifetime for the surface.

We also critically require additional track-side storage facilities for hire bikes. These bikes are invaluable in giving novice riders the chance to experience Track cycling. Recently it has become increasingly difficult to meet the growing demands at Saturday and Monday training sessions. We are preparing planning applications to construct a new storage hut that will allow for additional hire bikes.
 
The total cost of these projects is £10,000: £5600 for the surface coating and £4400 (estimated) for the storage hut. Gosling Sports Park have committed £4000; we aim to raise the remaining £6000. Any donations gratefully accepted by Peter Waghorn.

Appeal 2008 Track Meeting on 27 June.
To launch this Appeal, we will be running the Welwyn Track League meeting on 27 June 2008 as a special event in aid of the Appeal, with several exhibition events.
Further details of this event will follow in coming weeks.
