This years Welwyn Track League, sponsored once again by Plowman Craven Associates, gets under way on Friday April 25th and runs every Friday through to September 12th
Two hours of action packed racing in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere with racing for all categories - youth riders in the 7–16 age group plus Seniors, Juniors and Ladies. The 2 hour programme which gets under way at 7.15 pm comprises 20 events and finishes at around 9.15pm – the final event being a 35 lap (10 mile) race for all Senior, Junior and Lady riders which can have up to 60 riders taking part. All riders in both the Youth and Senior groups will get FOUR races per evening. Spectators are welcome free of charge
YOUTH EVENTS The Youth A (under 16) riders open up the evenings racing with a 5 lap scratch race followed by 4 lap scratch for Youth B (under 14) riders and a 3 lap race for Youth C (under 12) riders. Other events for each group are selected from – Points races, Elimination races (Devil), one lap (500m) Handicap, 500m Sprint. Most of the races for the Youth B and C riders are Handicap events as this provides better racing for the wider age group category. Handicaps are adjusted on a weekly basis to provide close and exciting racing giving all riders a chance for glory. The final event for the Youth B and C riders is the traditional 4 lap Handicap race with cash prizes for the first four riders to finish as well as points towards the overall League table.
SENIOR EVENTS
Senior riders are divided into two groups (A and B) based on ability, age and experience. The first Senior event of the evening is a 10 lap scratch for Group B riders followed by 10 lap scratch for Group A riders. The Final event is the Senior 10 mile (34 laps) for Senior group A and B riders. Other events for Senior riders are selected each week from the following – 10 lap Points, Devil take the Hindmost, 10 lap Block Handicap, 10 lap Block Pursuit, 10 lap Hare & Hounds. 500m Sprint and 500m Handicap events are run occasionally.
SCORING
Points scored in each event (Senior and Youth) go towards the final overall result. Each Senior event has 4 points for first place down to 1 point for fourth place. Youth events score 3,2,1 points for the first three finishers in each race. At the end of the series the total accumulated points for each rider is translated into cash prizes and there are Trophies for the overall Senior winner, the 10 mile series leader and the three Youth categories. ENTRY FEES
Senior Riders £8 per meeting , Youth Riders £2 per meeting. All riders pay a £2 number deposit (returnable at end of series). Riders new to track racing will require accreditation by attending Monday Track Training sessions before being permitted to race in the Track League.
Other Information In order to race in the Track League riders will require a current Full British Cycling Racing Licence (a provisional license is not sufficient). Track Bikes are available for Hire at £2, Hire Bikes have Look pedals or Clips and Straps

TRACK TRAINING/COACHING
Monday evening Track training sessions, supervised by qualified BC coaches, are held each week from 14th April through to 15th September (weather permitting). There will also be sessions on Fridays April 11 and 18th in preparation for the Track League. Training Sessions Start at 7.00pm - Charges which cover track hire and equipment maintenance are - £3 per session for Under 16 riders (£2 for Welwyn Wheelers) £5 for Senior riders (£3 for Welwyn Wheelers). BC Racing Licences are NOT required for training/coaching sessions. Track Bikes are available for Hire at these sessions - £2 Novice riders of all ages are welcome and will be given instruction on riding fixed wheel track bikes, track etiquette and safety requirements before joining regular training groups.
