Written by Graeme Anderson
Friday, 27 August 2010

To crown a great few weeks for club member Laura Trott, she has now been selected to ride for England in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October. She will be riding in the track team.

Lauras older sister Emma, who has been riding with the GB road squad for most of the year, has also been picked to ride for England at the Games. Emma will be riding in the road team.

Emma and Laura are the first sisters to be selected in an England Cycling team and follow in the footsteps of the Swinnerton sisters, Catherine and Margaret, who represented Great Britain in 1979, 1981 and 1982.

Former Welwyn Wheeler, Andrew Fenn has also been selected to go to the Games, this time representing Scotland.

European Junior Cycling Tour Assen
Written by Graeme Anderson
Wednesday, 04 August 2010

The Assen Youth Tour, now re-named the European Junior Cycling Tour, is in its 46th year and has been an international event for quite some years. Welwyn riders started attending this event some eight or so years ago. Andy Fenn was one of our riders to have seen early success in years gone by, winning this event twice. Tom Gallacher started racing here, in cat 3, eight years ago, has improved, year on year and would not miss this race for the world!

This year over 700 participants from 10 European countries are taking part and even some from as far away as the United States. This makes the Assen Youth Tour the biggest event of its kind in Europe. We hope more young Welwyn riders may consider taking part in this event in years `to come.

See the results pages for the race results.
