Welwyn Wheelers youth riders produced some excellent performances and results in the first of the Milton Keynes Spring circuit races on Saturday. In the under 10 category Tom Durkin broke away on lap one and maintained his lead to the finish after 5 laps backed up by Tom Street in second place and Alexi Edwards in 7th. Jack Plumley was in a two up break on lap 2 of the under 12 race which lapped a number of riders, unfortunately in the final lap Jack almost came off after the leader Charlotte Broughton slowed and he lost contact finishing in second place with clubmate Will Street third. Michael Parrry finished seventh while Kathryn Anderson finished her first circuit race. In the under 14 race Ollie Plumley and Bethany Hayward attacked from the start and rode away from the field in impressive style - at the finish Ollie was the winner from Bethany with Chloe Evans back in 6th place with a strong ride and Nick Brown and Rebecca Maynard further back. After three laps of the 20 lap under 16 race, which contained five Welwyn riders, Josh Maynard was in a three man group with Team Keyne Daniel Murphy and a Leicestershire Road Club rider. They stayed together for lap after lap until Murphy went away with 4 laps to go. Josh lost out by half a wheel to the Leicestershire rider in the battle for second place. The remaining Wheelers riders finished in 4th (Ben Bailey), 5th (Alex Anderson), 7th (George Farrell) and 8th (Ryan Owens) place to round off a sussessful afternoon
In the mornings senior race Tom Gallacher, Dan Snow and Mark Smith all finished in the bunch in a fast and furious one hour race and managed to avoid the two crashes which occurred.
Milton Keynes Second round is on 20th March
